Michael J. Breus, Ph.D. is a Clinical Psychologist and Board Certified Sleep Specialist. He was one of the youngest people to have passed the Board at age 31, and with a specialty in Sleep Disorders and Neuropsychological Testing, is one of only 162 doctors in the world with his credentials and distinction.

Dr. Breus is the Co-Founder of SoundSleep Solutions, and currently serves as The Chairman of The Clinical Advisory Board for Sleep Holdings, LLC (ticker symbol: SLHJ.PK) the only publicly traded sleep diagnostic and therapy company in the world. He is the author of Good Night: The Sleep Doctor's 4-Week Program to Better Sleep and Better Health (Dutton).

He is also the Sleep Health Expert at WebMD, Co-Founder and Senior Partner of The Sleep Center Management Institute, LLC, Co-Founder of Sleep Doctors On Call, on the faculty of The Atlanta School of Sleep Medicine, and is an Editorial Advisory Board Member and Columnist for Sleep Review Magazine.

As the lead book for Dutton (Penguin) Publishing Dr. Breus’ non-fiction book: Good Night: The Sleep Doctor’s 4-Week Program to Better Sleep and Better Health, has generated significant interest in the media. He has given interviews to popular magazines such as Fast Company, Cosmopolitan, Best Life, Self, Shape, Family Circle, The Saturday Evening Post, Complete Woman, and Woman’s World, and more. He has been asked to do numerous radio and television appearances including the Today Show, The View, Fox Dayside, and many more.  

Dr. Breus recognizes the profound yet largely unrecognized impact that sleep disorders have on our health and wellness, performance, productivity, safety and healthcare costs. As Co-Founder of Sound Sleep, LLC, (www.soundsleepsolutions.com) he is dedicated to raising the awareness of sleep disorders to both the public and the healthcare community, and developing innovative education and communication programs for their assessment and treatment.

One example of Dr. Breus’ innovative educational programming is The Sleep Advantage Program (www.crownePlaza.com), which is currently in use in every Crowne Plaza Hotel in the Americas (60,000 rooms). Breus has done satellite media tours in conjunction with the program. He can also be seen in-flight on Delta and Continental airlines as well as the CNN airport network giving sleep tips to business travelers.

Dr. Breus heads the Clinical Operations as a Senior Vice President of Areté Sleep Health, a multi laboratory (100 beds) multi-state (Arizona, California, Washington, and Oregon) sleep diagnostics and therapy company.

Dr. Breus is the “Health Expert” on Sleep Disorders for WebMD (the world’s largest health website), writing articles, providing editorial services and answering questions daily on the sleep disorders message board, his Blog and in their new publication WebMD the Magazine ( current circulation 1 million doctors offices)

Dr. Breus has taught several CME courses on sleep disorders and provided editorial services for several medical and psychology peer-reviewed journals. He has given more than 300 presentations to professionals and the public on topics ranging from disordered sleep vs. formal sleep disorders, insomnia, parasomnias and excessive daytime sleepiness to the business practices of sleep centers.

Prior to his book, Dr.Breus has been considered an expert in the field and interviewed by such respected consumer magazines and newspapers as: The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Fast Company, Bloomberg and Reuters News wires, Reader’s Digest, Allure, Cosmopolitan, Parent’s Magazine, RedBook, Marie Claire and has given live interviews for both local and national news (CBS Morning) and entertainment television and radio shows.

Dr. Breus has published scientific articles in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, Journal of Pharmacology, Biochemistry and Behavior, Physiology and Behavior, Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise, and The Journal of Pain.

Michael J. Breus, PhD, is adiplomate of the American Board of Sleep Medicine, has a bachelor's degree in psychology from Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York and received the Mellon Undergraduate Fellowship in Psychiatry at the Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic in Pittsburgh. He completed a post-baccalaureate premedical program at Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania. He has received both a master's and doctorate degree from the University of Georgia. Breus completed his internship at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson with a specialty in Sleep Disorders and Neuropsychological testing. He is board-certified in both clinical psychology and clinical sleep disorders.
